mental units over two years, according to the findings in this report.

report, compiled by the National Patient Safety Agency, acknowledges the
likelihood of underreporting of incidents. It also calls for a new definition
of “harm” in incident reports to include psychological trauma. Officials have

Other
publications have stated this report has revealed at least, 122 reported sexual
incidents, including 19 reported rapes, in mental health care settings between
November 2003 and September 2005. This is almost one reported rape a month. In
11 of the 19 reported rapes, the alleged perpetrator was a member of staff. The
NHS litigation authority has also received three claims for compensation
following unwanted pregnancies. Source
