UFFC_flyer_Oct_2011The 13th annual deaths in custody remembrance march is set to take place on Saturday 29th October 2011 at 12.30 from Trafalgar Square in Central London.

Organised by the United Families and Friends Campaign, this even will again see the Families of those who have died in police and prison custody and secure state care will hold a silent procession and then deliver a letter of demands to the Prime Minister.

 

The UFFC are calling on supporters or those who are concerns about the spate of deaths that have occurred in this year along to come along and support this event by joining in this march.

 

Supporter have been asked to assemble from 12.30pm at Nelsons Column Trafalgar Square for a solemn and silent procession along Whitehall followed by a noisy protest to Downing Street.

We need justice and positive action

Speaking in advance of the march, Marcia Rigg, sister of Sean Rigg who died in police custody in Brixton in August 2008 said: 'we will be marching to remember all our loved ones and to remind the Government that we are not going away. We need justice and positive action taken to ensure that this terrible list of deaths at the hands of the state has no more victims added to it'.

The UFFC have made it clear that all who are concerned about this issue are welcome and are encouraging people to come out in support and also bring their friends. All attending have been asked to wear black and bring group banners.

Names_on_banerThe UFFC is a coalition of families and friends of those who have died in the custody of the police and prison officers as well as those who are have lost their lives in secure psychiatric hospitals.

It includes families of Roger Sylveter, Leon Patterson, David 'Rocky' Bennett, Alton Manning, Christopher Alder, Brian Douglas, Joy Gardner, Aseta Simms, Ricky Bishop, Paul Memmont, Harry Stanley, Glenn Howard, Mikey Powell, Jason McPheron, Lloyd Butler, Azelle Rodney, Sean Rigg, Habib Ullah, Olseni Lewis, Smiley Culture, Kingsley Burrell-Brown, Demetre Fraser and Mark Duggan to name but a few. Together the UFFC are building a network for collective action to end deaths in custody.

In 1999 the group held the first Annual Remembrance Procession from Trafalgar Square to Downing Street, where a rally is held every year to demand justice from the Prime Minister and the government.
