Subject matter - This paper examines the the relationship between Mental Health Services and the Criminal Justice System and the Police and how this impacts on detention rates and the transcarceration of black Britons.

There is extensive evidence to show that people from black communities in particular are disproportionately represented in both prisons and secure psychiatric settings. This paper looks at some of the challenges that this raises with the growth of the trancerceration of black people detained in the system and makes suggestions as to how these challenges can begin to be addressed.
